Who we are
In the 1950s, a man had an idea that would forever revolutionise transportation, international trade, and the global economy: Malcom McLean, the inventor of the shipping container.
McLean was acutely aware of the inefficiencies of maritime shipping. At the time, goods were transported loosely in cargo ships, requiring manual and time-consuming loading and unloading processes at ports. These delays often extended to weeks, drastically increasing shipping costs.
One day, while observing this process at the Port of New Jersey, McLean had a revolutionary thought: “What if my truck could be loaded onto the ship all at once, cargo and all?”
This idea would change the course of history. He envisioned removing the truck cargo box and loading it directly onto ships. To make this concept a reality, he designed metal containers with dimensions matching his trailers. Thus, the shipping container was born.
The name “CONEX” is a portmanteau of “Container” and “Express,” reflecting its design for storing and moving cargo quickly and efficiently.
Today, Conex Pty Ltd is focussed on delivering Off-Grid, self-sufficient portable buildings to the Mining, Construction & Pastoral sectors of Australia. Just like Malcom McLean, Amy Herbert saw a gap in the market to revolutionise these sectors and to make deployment of site buildings more efficient.
Having worked in the renewables sector for over 5 years and living in Port Hedland, Amy is well aware of the challenges faced onsite when it comes to remote locations & safety protocols.
An automatic customised frame was engineered & built to enable Conex buildings to be quickly set up and to eliminate the need for working at heights. This allows the portable buildings to be easily relocated around site without the need of an electrician to disconnect and reconnect them to the electrical infrastructure.
What started as an idea to power a small site office from solar panels has grown to a catalogue of products that is forever expanding.
